About 02X

02X (Pty) Ltd is a South African venture builder and holding company, registered in Gauteng (Reg. 2025/768856/07). We build and hold software ventures in regulated and compliance-heavy industries.

How we work

Our model is simple. We build small, focused, app-based services that replace consultant-heavy work with software supervised by humans. We launch one venture at a time, prove the model, and scale only when the operating loop is sound. Today we have one live venture and several in research.

Why regulated industries

We build only in regulated, compliance-heavy sectors, on purpose. They carry repetitive, high-stakes administrative work, the registers, the returns, the audits, that is painful to do by hand and expensive to outsource to specialists. That combination is exactly where an app-based service supervised by humans creates the most value, and where each 02X venture is aimed.

The problem 02X was built around

South African statutory compliance is not hard because the rules are obscure. It is hard because the rules are numerous, they sit in different Acts with different triggers, they change without announcement, and discharging them correctly is a recurring administrative job that no small or mid sized business is staffed to do properly.

A single employer can simultaneously owe duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Protection of Personal Information Act, the Companies Act, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the tax administration framework, each with its own thresholds, its own records and its own deadlines. Most of those duties are only visible when something goes wrong, and by then the exposure is a penalty that recurs monthly, a deregistration, or an inspection that finds nothing on file.

The usual answers are a consultant who produces a file that ages, or software that hands the work back to the client under a different interface. 02X was formed in 2025 to build the third answer: a managed service where the software carries the tracking and qualified people carry the judgement, operated by a company that is accountable for the outcome rather than for the deliverable.

The principles we build to

Source the rule before designing the product. Statutory provisions are read from the Act and the gazetted regulation, recorded with their section numbers, and tracked against the Government Gazette. Where the market version of a rule differs from the gazetted wording, the gazetted wording wins and the difference is documented.

Never overstate what a service covers. If an obligation sits outside our competence, we name the professional who should carry it. 02X is not a law firm, an audit firm or a registered tax practitioner firm, and it does not present itself as any of them.

Keep human accountability visible. Every compliance judgement has a named qualified person behind it. Automation removes the administration, not the responsibility.

Build narrow and sequenced. One accurate domain is worth more than four approximate ones, which is why the venture roadmap moves in order rather than in parallel.

The client keeps the decision. Our ventures surface the obligation, the evidence and the gap. The client decides on remediation and remains the party the regulator holds responsible, because that is how the statutes are written.

02X is founded and run by Philip de Witt (ACMA, CGMA; MBA), Founder and Managing Director of 02X (Pty) Ltd. He brings around 19 years in financial governance, risk and executive leadership. The operating model stays deliberately hands-on: every compliance output the platform produces is reviewed and signed off by him before it reaches a client.
